NEW CAREER DEVELOPMENT CENTER
Bond University launched its new-look Career Development Center (CDC), which will offer students, Alumni and industry employers a full suite of professional recruitment services. Designed to bring employers together with current Bond students and Alumni, the CDC's on-campus office will be staffed by two full-time Employment Services Specialists, working in conjunction with industry-specific Careers Advisors attached to each of the university faculties.
In addition to the website options, the CDC will provide a free recruitment service for graduates, interns and Alumni. "As a relatively small university, Bond's CDC staff and faculty-based Careers Advisors come to know all of our students very well," said Ms Mitchell.
NEW BACHELORS DEGREE in Computer Games
The interactive entertainment industry grossed more than $50 billion worldwide in 2005. In Australia, it exceeded the $1 billion mark for the first time. It may sound like child's play but the development of hardware products like XBox, Playstation and Nintendo, and the ever-increasing range of games software, is now serious business.
From January 2007, Bond University will offer a Bachelor of Computer Games to offer advanced qualifications to students hoping to forge a career in this exciting and challenging field.
“Bond's new Bachelor of Computer Games, which starts next semester, is so much more than a straight multimedia degree,” said Director of Bond's Centre for New Media Research and Education, Associate Professor Jeff Brand, who devised the degree with Assistant Professor Scott Knight. "In addition to focusing on the core design elements of programming, digital imaging, sound/audio and logic, Bond's Bachelor of Computer Games is the only games degree that incorporates a complementary major in fields such as advertising, film and television, journalism, marketing or corporate communication.
"These combinations open the door to other highly lucrative career pathways including the publishing, manufacturing, distribution and retail facets of interactive entertainment products; the promotion of computer games through public relations, marketing and advertising; the establishment of legal frameworks; and business management," he said.

They are readily available to provide academic support and extra help for all students who live on campus. We currently have Tutor Fellows specializing in Business, Information Technology, Law, Humanities, Proofreading or Health Sciences. They are simply a phone call or email away from a one-on-one consultation free of charge!

GRADUATE SUCCESS PROFILE - THE 'REEL' DEBORAH READ
She played the resident vixen in an Asian soap opera, was Kim Catrall's stand-in on Sex and the City and rubbed shoulders with Angelina Jolie and George Clooney at the Oscars, but Deborah Read still wasn't satisfied. It wasn't until she stepped onto her own set that she finally discovered her real passion for directing. "My goal is to be the first female to win an Oscar for directing. A woman has never won a directing Oscar, and only two have ever been nominated. I'd love to be the first to win. You couldn't ask for a better dream than that," Deborah said.
Her incredible journey of self discovery started on the Gold Coast, when she decided she wanted to study journalism and public relations at Bond University.
Deborah's new direction brought about a chance meeting with Los Angeles based Director Louis J Horvitz. "I went from Assistant to Associate Director and worked on events such as the Academy Awards, The Emmy's and Europe Live Aid. I was doing around 17 shows a year for six years. I travelled a lot and lived a hectic life, but I loved it.
Recently accepted into the highly competitive and world-renowned American Film Institute (AFI) Directing Workshop for Women, Deborah is already well on her way to achieving her dream. Having outperformed 450 applicants to snag one of only eight places in the program, Deborah received a grant to direct her own film, which she co-wrote with fellow Bond University graduate Mark Kassab. Deborah wrapped filming last month and is now in the post-production process, hoping to have her finished product ready by November for screening at the Capri International Film Festival in Italy.
